What’s Next 8.Go

Byron Esser has style. Cloak & Dagger Rd. Photo: Zadie Sexus.

Style is critical! And I’m not talking about some fashionista bullshit, nor am I speaking of any other showy display of Vanity. What I’m interested in is the particular way an individual does a thing that reflects Flow, Finesse, and Liquidity—and more specifically, how that fits into the act of skateboarding. Let’s just say that I believe style and skateboarding are best in bed, with each other. Read More

The 2012 Golden Gate Park Race & All-Day Shredfest.

| February 24, 2025 | Comments (1)

The day of the 2012 Golden Gate Part Race began and ran its course much like any other Saturday spent in San Francisco with the Sunset Sliders; we woke up late, had some laughs over breakfast, and proceeded to shred until darkness ensued.

That’s just how we roll.

The following is a photographic and videographic refection of an epic day spent with friends and filled to the brim with some serious downhill Gnarlitude.

Some of you may notice a lack of text in this article—If that bums you out, I do apologize.

As an experiment, I carried with me not only my skateboard, but also two DSLRs and my iPhone. I ended up capturing what I believe to be some truly inspirational shots, and ultimately, I just feel this story is best told visually—I hope you agree. Please enjoy. Read More

Yeehaw!: Being Aware.

Mr. Yeehaw! gearing up for a fast and ferocious 2012 season of Shred! Malibu, Ca. Photo: Charlie Treehorn.

2012 is going to be a big event-season that, for many, will require a bunch of travelling. This means dealing with long-distances, overpriced airport food, and carrying around large bags of shred equipment. That said, one of the most important things you will have to deal with is finding a place to crash while you’re visiting any given event. The best option, in my humble opinion, is to bring a tent and your camping gear and posting up near the hill or in your buddies yard. If you don’t have a tent, or didn’t bring it, then that means you’re couch-surfing in a local skater’s living room—getting deeply pitted by the flower-print upholstery of the sofa. Either way, yard or couch/carpet or lawn, you are staying at their house and should have some common courtesy in return for their generosity. Read More

I Left My Heart In San Francisco: Episode 2

| February 16, 2025 | Comments (0)

In this second installment we, the Sunset Sliders, bring to you a stellar story of growth, gains, gnarboots and of course girth. In this Northern California update, the segundo piso of skateboarding style, we introduce the incorporated city of Sunset Sliders, California. With the recent explosion of talent in and around the Bay Area, we decided to start our own city and fill it with all the fine trappings that any crew of shredders could desire.

A public transportation system with underwriting from Caliber Truck Company helps to teleport all of our citizens from session, to event, to party, to session, and so forth. Sunset Sliders merely need wait by the newly created City of Sunset Sliders Bus-Stops in order to be whisked away to a bumping session teeming with fellow skaters. Another statute of our newly formulated city code was instituting 24-hour donut shops for the people! Fine cruelers will surely fortify the future for skateboarders in our fine city.

The joys of creating our own city don’t stop there for we, much like the Swazilandians in South Africa, find ourselves surrounded by the constructs set-forth by the surrounding cities of the San Francisco Bay Area. At times, it is necessary for our citizens to enter nimble ninja-mode in order to occupy top-notch roads without being noticed. To do this we allotted the totality of our public spending to the sciences and, lo and behold ,with that support we’ve figured out how to control our local weather on the microcosmic level. Now, when in need of evasive maneuvers, we can conjure a dense fog to blanket our brethren as we slip away unnoticed. . .
