Scoot & His New Sector 9 Pro Model: “Tiffany”

Scoot is a ripping downhill shredder and has been skateboarding steep and winding roads for many, many moons. He was born in Mission, BC, Canada back in 1987 and now resides in East Vancouver. Scoot has won races all over the world, including Maryhill ’07, as well as others in Germany, Puerto Rico, Canada, and France. What really makes Scoot such a Cool Cat is not only his racing accolades, but it’s also because he’s just a chill-ass human being. By day, Scoot builds houses—it just so happens that he’s also one of the fastest skateboarders in the world.
When we heard that Sector 9 was releasing Scoot’s new downhill pro model, the “Tiffany”, we had to hit him up directly and get the scoop. The following are some images of Scoot riding his new “Tiffany” board, as well as a brief interview with the man himself discussing how this new deck came about and what is on the horizon for 2012. Sector 9 just released your pro model downhill board the “Tiffany”. That’s seriously awesome—congratulations dude! Tell us a bit about how this board came about as well what makes it unique and extra-fresh?
I’ve always wanted to design my own downhill skateboard. When I started riding for Sector 9 in 2011 they gave me the opportunity to make a deck, which was really rad. We began working on the first prototype in April after I came up with the idea to make a directional downhill board with a drop in the front—there was nothing like that on the market. The first time I got to really test the shape of the board was at Attack of Danger Bay 10, and it went really well. After more testing—10 or so races, and 2 more prototypes—we had the finished product. People will be really stoked with this new shape because it rides and feels different than any other board out there.

So now that your new Sector 9 pro model has hit the hills, and the 2012 race season is about to pop-off, what can we expect to see you getting into this year?
I started off the season in January, in Puerto Rico, and I’ll be heading to Australia in April. I’m stoked on warm climates right now because it’s guaranteed dry pavement. As soon as May hits, the race season just gets really crazy. It’s pretty much pick-and-choose with a race or event almost every weekend until December. I’m going to be throwing some local events myself this year with help from Sector 9, so keep in touch with me on Facebook—they’re going to be rad.

It was good skating with ya and chillin’ while you were here in Cali and we look forward to seeing you kill it on the race circuit this season. Do you need a suit to participate in a race??
Some yes. Just because they courses are pretty gnarly and fast. There are some though, mostly smaller local events that do not require then. It’s pretty much a good idea to wear leathers when you are racing because you never know what any of the other dudes you are racing against might do. We hope this helps.
What about full helmets? Do you need those and are there races for like 11 yr. olds?? I am looking into racing but still dont know slides. I only know like 2 and other easy tricks like cross-stepping. Thank you!
Each race is different. It’s a good idea though to wear a full face. Races for groms? Not sure. Some of the larger races like MAryhill have from divisions. We hope this helps.
