Comet Skateboards is making the last call on the first round of their Community Board Design project. The initial thread for idealogical input has been closed, so now it’s coming down to voting on various points of interest (in the form of +/- responses for such items as rocker, kicks, w-concave, et al.) for the soon-to=-be-prototyped freeride board. Get in on the thread right here! Voting ends May 20th (this Saturday), so don’t slack too much! As for the summary of the initial discussion topic, here’s what we’ve got to work with for the prototype:
- symmetrical
- top mount
- 8-ply
- kicktails 4.5″
- square tail and nose
- width of 9.8″
- wheelbase of 26″
- length of 39″
Once this portion of the design project has been closed, it’ll be time to source the graphics for the deck. This is when you call your artist buddies. Or, if you are the artistical type yourself, set a reminder! It’s also been said that we’re looking at a mids-June prototype release and, following two-ish weeks of riding/feedback, the final product may be released as early as mids-July.
Although it’s not an “official” mock-up, here’s a rough (though well-crafted) idea of what the board could look like; Submitted to the Community Design forum by birdie (Ben Leser) based off KGrady‘s initial sketch.
If the final product ends up looking anything remotely like this, our News Guy will be stoked. If you’d like to see the 3-D mockup in all it’s spinnable glory, here you go.
