So here’s a Fresh new Sunset Sliders edit of the shredding that went down at the second annual Menlo Park Skate Jam held a few weeks back. Also, we have a few words from the video’s editor and Sunset Sliders brotha-man, Doug York:
“The 2nd Annual Menlo Park Skate Jam, the most radtastic two and a half day session this side of “over there”, went down in mid September on the mid peninsula near San Francisco. The level of skating certainly improved by leaps and bounds from last year. We thought it fitting to bring the level of filming up as well. Over the summer, I conceived a design, and then built, a camera crane. The crane keeps the camera level while swinging it around—giving super smooth panty-dropping shots. I was unlucky enough to be recovering from a knee injury again this year and wasn’t able to skate. Not being able to skate did allow my mind to wander and concoct the crazy contraptions to capture the event on film. I’ve found that the friends I have made through skating and being part of the skate community have been extraordinarily supportive—not just in skating, but also outside of skating. I feel that it is important to give back to the scene in any way that you can. Albeit, mostly through actually going out and skating. If you can’t skate though, do what you can with what you have in order to make this community better for everyone involved: skaters, the people who live in the neighborhood where you lurk, the cops you have to deal with us, your local brick and mortar shops. Film your friends’ skate, clean up litter and if you have to deal with the cops be courteous and respectful (it goes a long way). Just be there, give a fuck, and do something, because in the end that will be all that matters—making shit better.
Big shout-out to ‘Totally in control’ Dave Hiltbrand for bustin’ all the balls to make the event happen. I’m sure it will be even better next year.Love, Peace, and Afro Grease”
