Long Beach, California – April 29, 2016. Wheelbase Magazine is proud to announce Andrew Mercado as our new Editor In Chief. Andrew is a skater of everything, a dad, a husband, a DJ, a pioneering adventurer, a great storyteller, as well as a solid friend. His extensive experience in the skateboard industry as a brand manager, company owner, professional rider, and team manager has provided him with a unique perspective that we believe is a perfect fit for leading the charge in growing our progressive “skate everything” skateboarding magazine.
I’ve always been a believer of never limiting yourself to one type of terrain—put your wheels on whatever comes across your path! In recent years, it seems there has been an unnecessary divide between the various disciplines within skateboarding—a form of “segregation” that doesn’t make any sense to me. When my friend Marcus Bandy asked if I was interested in the position of Editor in Chief at Wheelbase Magazine, the answer was enthusiastically YES!
The Wheelbase mission of representing diversity in skateboarding is something I have always believed in. The Wheelbase team has always done an excellent job documenting and respectfully curating the various types of terrain you can ride a skateboard on, and I am stoked to help grow that mission. This is an exciting opportunity to take what I have learned as a lifelong skateboarder, as well as what I have learned working in the skateboard industry, and apply that knowledge into a forward-thinking skate mag. Here’s to moving forward with the Wheelbase team, increasing diversity in skateboarding, and breaking down the walls of segregation that plague our scene. The future looks bright. –Andrew Mercado
Again, we are extremely happy to announce Andrew as the newest member to our growing Wheelbase Magazine team and we look forward working together with him in order to bring you the best, most diverse, and forward-thinking skateboard magazine in the world.
