Need For Speed “Downhill Skateboard Reunion”: 7/28/2012

July 11, 2012No Comments

Legendary skateboarder Dave Hackett just posted this flier for the Need for Speed “Downhill Skateboard Reunion” which is schedules to happen later this month on July 28th down in Oceanside, Ca. Looks like an epic event and an awesome opportunity to meet some OG downhill skaters, and see some rad downhill equipment from back in the day. Anyway, we’ll be there for sure. Here are the details thus far:

“The skateboard is a natural for a downhill speed run. Early skateboards had primitive roller skate wheels and trucks that were almost impossible to control at speeds over 15mph. The early 70’s brought polyurethane wheels with precision bearings and wide track skateboard trucks. The urethane wheels rolled easily over rough or smooth pavement. The sealed precision ball bearings added speed and the wide skateboard trucks added stability. This combination made downhill speed runs possible.

“The Signal Hill races held from ’75 to ‘78 led to innovations in skate equipment that helped advance the sport of Skateboarding in all disciplines. Need for Speed chronicles some of the early races and colorful skaters and the equipment evolution and a brief sample of downhill skateboards up to the present day.

“Please come and Join Us on Saturday July 28th from 7-10PM and Meet some of Skateboarding’s Legendary DownHill Racers!!”    (Dave Hackett)
