Dynamic Duo: Dustin Hampton & Peter Eubank

Here is the second installment of the “Dynamic Duo” article I started at SkateSlate a few months back. This time around I chose two friends that have stoked my skatefire and inspired me to get better at freeriding. I met the both of them while working at Loaded last year and we’ve been friends ever since. Individually, these guys are hill-slayers, no doubt, but the real reason I chose them for this particular article is because together these dudes are inspirational to the level of bodacity paralleled only by super-hero status. And I’m not over-hyping this shit!

Nice & smooth, L.A. Photo Bandy

Pete and Dustin have been skateboarding downhill together since high school—following their dreams of becoming topnotch riders and joining the race scene. They are well on their way, and are seriously two of the rippingest rippers out there. Together, not only do they push one another to skate harder, they also exude some unknown power to push everyone else around them to excel as well. It’s hard sometimes to put a finger on just how people inspire others, and even if ya can, some things are better understood in person, on board. But since I’m sitting here in front of this keyboard I guess I should at least attempt to explicate their combined badassery. Basically, Pete and Dusty ride hard, they have a shit-storm of fun while doing it, and they understand the fraternity of shred. Please enjoy the following pics and words; and if you ever get a chance to skate with these two dudes, embrace the opportunity with gusto; you’re guaranteed to have a great session and gain some new friends.

A brief reflection, L.A. Photo: Bandy

“It’s always a blast shredding with my man Pete. He brings something new and different to every skate sesh such as a new trick, smooth new skate lingo, short-shorts, or even a 4-foot hillbilly beard. Pete just started up his own clothing line called ‘Yeehaw’ that is oriented towards downhill skaters. I couldn’t be more happy for him.” (Dustin Hampton)

“Dustin oozes steeze and grace, two things that are at the top of the list for any downhill rider. We always challenge each other to try new things and get better. There’s like this secret competition going on sometimes, so when he lands something that I have been working at for a while it’s always like, ‘Ya right on man’, but really it just lights-my-fire to make that trick or try whatever crazy drift he just pulled. “ (Peter Eubank)

Finito!.
