Board Review: California Bonzing Co. “OSO”

February 9, 2012No Comments

The OSO is a performance freeride board and is a featured addition to California Bonzing Company‘s growing line of performance skateboards. The OSO is a top-mount deck featuring symmetrical shaping. It is constructed of stiff, 9-ply maple with a deep and flowing concave throughout. The OSO also features healthy wheelwells and a double sided, collaboration graphic by San Francisco artist’s Yvonne Byers, Chad Lymbrand, and Austin Graziano.

Testing:

In order to test the Oso, we took it to its birthplace—the beautiful city of San Francisco. While in SF, we hit some sweeping corners, speedy neighborhood runs, steep decents; as well as a couple impromptu spots along the way.

Results/ Findings:

After spending some time riding this board, here’s what we liked about California Bonzing’s OSO: we really liked the stiffness of the this board—we felt that it’s stiff, 9-ply maple construction allowed for more confidence at higher speeds. Also, the 10 1/2” width of this symetrical deck provided ample room for any foot shifting that occurred while kicking out slides or adjusting stance. Another thing we liked was the well-placed wheelwells—we rode up to 72mm wheels and never had any issue with wheelbite. Lastly, the OSO’s double sided and three-artist graphic is both insanely beautiful and truly original.

Cons:

Weighing in at 5lbs 10oz, the OSO feels a bit on the heavy side at slower speeds. That said, once you get this bear rollin’ a bit faster you forget about all that, entirely.

Overall, the OSO is a super-fun, symmetrical top-mount hungry for speed. This board is most comfortable going fast, powering through corners, and throwing lengthy, back-to-back slides. The combination of the OSO’s ample deck width, it’s deep concave, and it’s generous wheelwells, partner to create one of the most comfortable and playful freeride boards we’ve ever ridden. We enjoyed riding California Bonzing’s OSO board, and we suggest it to any skater looking for a freeride deck that can handle the numerous demands of a steep and winding concrete jungle.
